When abandoned by her husband upon their arrival in Jamaica, everything is stripped away. Under the sweeping landscape of the Victorian outpost, memories of high-society Washington reveal the couple’s rocky love affair and scandalous downfall. Finding sanctuary in the sea, and surrounded by a culture rich with diversity, Waverly discovers her own voice. Yet, all is not as it seems. Deception, temptation and danger lurk.
Tormented, Civil War veteran Marcus Flynn cannot let anyone beyond his stoic exterior, especially his wife. But when Waverly is ensnared in a deadly game of revenge, he must wrangle his inner demons, or allow the anguish of war to stand forever between them. Can the power of forgiveness bring them back together before their trail of wreckage puts everything, and everyone they hold dear at risk? With poetic quality and vivid detail that evoke imagery and place, this coming-of-age story is a heartbreaking exploration of trauma, pain, and redemption.
